Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information. We share only what is reasonably necessary with:

  • Website and enquiry providers: Cloudflare (hosting, delivery and security), Supabase (secure enquiry storage and dealer authentication), and Web3Forms (sending website enquiries to our email).
  • Vehicle and fulfilment partners: suppliers and auction providers, shipping and transport companies, registration and import-service providers, workshops, warranty or insurance providers where needed for the service you request.
  • Finance providers: if you ask us to make an introduction or proceed with finance. A finance provider will give you its own privacy information and may carry out identity, affordability and credit checks.
  • Business and legal recipients: professional advisers, insurers, regulators, law-enforcement bodies, courts, prospective purchasers of our business, or others where disclosure is required or permitted by law.

If you choose to contact us through WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok, email or another third-party service, that provider processes information under its own privacy terms as well as delivering your message to us.

05

International transfers

Some technology, communications and vehicle-service providers may process personal information outside the UK. Where UK data-protection law treats this as a restricted transfer, we require a recognised safeguard, such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contractual protections including the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or UK Addendum, as applicable. You can contact us for more information about the safeguard used for a particular transfer.

06

Cookies and similar technology

No advertising or analytics pixels are currently installed on this website. We do not currently use TikTok Pixel, Meta Pixel or Google Analytics on the public site.

Our service providers may use strictly necessary technology to deliver the site, protect it from malicious traffic, and keep the private dealer area signed in. These functions cannot be switched off through a website preference because they are necessary for the service or security. You can use browser controls to block or remove cookies, although doing so may affect protected or sign-in features.

If we introduce non-essential analytics, advertising or similar technology, we will update this notice and request consent where the law requires it before that technology is used.

07

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose collected, including legal, accounting and regulatory obligations. As a working guide:

  • enquiries that do not become a transaction are normally kept for up to 24 months after the last meaningful contact;
  • customer, vehicle import, sales, payment and compliance records are normally kept for up to six years after the transaction or relationship ends, and longer only where a legal or regulatory reason requires it;
  • marketing preferences are kept while marketing continues, and suppression details may be kept after an opt-out so we can respect it;
  • technical and security records are kept for the shorter periods reasonably required to operate, diagnose and protect the service.

We may keep information longer where a complaint, dispute, investigation or legal claim is ongoing. We securely delete or anonymise information when it is no longer needed.

08

Your data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances and our lawful basis, you may have the right to ask us to:

  • give you a copy of your personal information;
  • correct incomplete or inaccurate information;
  • delete information in certain circumstances;
  • restrict how we use information;
  • provide certain information in a portable format;
  • stop processing based on consent or legitimate interests.
Your right to object: you can object at any time to our use of your information for direct marketing. You may also object to processing based on our legitimate interests; we will stop unless we have compelling legitimate grounds to continue or need the information for legal claims.

You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful use. These rights are not absolute. We may need to confirm your identity and will explain if an exemption applies. Exercising your rights is normally free of charge. Contact us using the details below.

09

Marketing choices

Where required, we send electronic marketing only with consent. We may also contact an existing customer about similar services where the law permits. You can opt out at any time by using an unsubscribe instruction in the message or contacting us. Service messages about an active enquiry, transaction or vehicle are not marketing.

10

Android app

The Straight Outta Japan Android app displays our public vehicle stock feed. It does not require a customer account and does not contain advertising or analytics SDKs. When it fetches the feed, standard connection information such as an IP address may be processed by our hosting provider.

If you choose to call, email, open our website or message us through WhatsApp from the app, your chosen phone, browser, email or messaging provider handles that action under its own privacy terms. We receive only what you choose to send to us.

11

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information from accidental loss and unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. Access is limited to people and providers who need it for their role. No internet or electronic-storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Our services concern vehicle sales and imports and are not directed at children. Our website and social pages may link to other organisations. We are not responsible for their websites or privacy practices, so please read their notices before giving them information.
